Translating sound into visual poetry
This is an early work from when I was a visual designer. I experimented with multiple Adobe tools to create visual compositions that capture the beauty and poetry Bruno Coulais, the French composer, brings to his precise musical language—connecting sound directly to the motion picture.
I used a deep, classic color palette, timeless serif type, and subtle decorative graphic treatments to create compositions that are both vibrant and delicate—echoing and amplifying the feelings and messages carried through his film scores and excerpts from his interviews.

Impressed by how Coulais weaves his classical music foundation into each film's distinct character, through experimental textures, global folk traditions, and children's choirs, I created a cover that blends a translucent portrait of Coulais and the title typography into windswept sand dunes, echoing the organic, inventive acoustic textures of his early film scores.

Selected pages
Here are some selected pages where I experimented with different page layouts to restore the scene or feeling of where Coulais' film score actually played, further echoing the text content.
